Opinionated and uneducated; a deadly cocktail.

I work with a project in Haiti called Ayitimoun Yo (Haitis Children). The project is a home for underprivileged, and orphaned children that provides them with safety, an education, but most importantly…with love.

Below is the lyrics translated into English. Reading the words and listening to the children sing is really inspiring and moving.

God, Our Lives in Your Hands
(Choir)
Oh Good God, hold our lives in your hands
Only you can say the last word
In your heart, say a word for us
So that we can see a path for our lives

(Estime)
There are so many children that suffer without solution
Humiliated in the eyes of other nations
They have been hit and abused, terrible conditions
Day and night we run away from migration
When we want to sleep, we lay on the floor
Our own nation treats us as discards
Often we don’t know what to do, when the day falls
We surrender to misery; we have no doors to knock on

(Kinito)
The tragedy continues as we try to find food
We walk the streets searching for bottles to survive
Sometimes we sell them on credit just so that we don’t die from hunger
We go to sleep up there (in the roof of the park), almost without talking
Looking up and down, as if life said bye bye!
Often our only Hope are tourists
Thank God we are now fortunate with Lucia and Alexis

(CHOIR)

(Kinito)
We can’t forget we are the future of the country
We are like trees, we must be watered so we can give fruits
We are the future of the country
If we aren’t taken care, tomorrow it won’t be beautiful
Do we have or not any politicians?
As we keep on feeling up papers, and still they don’t do anything
Now we live in a center, and nobody comes to see us.
Instead of saying hello, they seem to be blind

(CHOIR)

(Estime)
It’s because children are compared to dogs
Even worst, if they are hungry you would give them a piece of bread
(If you gave it to us) It would not be lost, as God will repay it tomorrow
Is it that you like making other people suffer?
Tell me, Is it not the same blood that goes through our veins?
Tell me, is it not the same skin that covers our soul?

My neighbor.
